Michael Trolls, Founder of Exeter Spartans, identified the lack of junior basketball provision within the Exeter and District region, the closest club being in Uffculme, Taunton and the Torbay areas, a significant distance away.  At the same time the significant opportunity to utilise the exceptional facilities at the newly built Exeter College Sports Hall and the density of school populations, in the Exeter area were realised. 

As a dedicated sports professional and basketball coach, Michael decided to investigate the possibility of developing a new club, which became the Exeter Spartans.
